WASPS welcome back ace Anders Henriksson for tonight's match against Reading Racers(7.30pm) as the Wasps have their final chance to capture an away win this season.
Coincidentally Reading's Smallmead Stadium has been Wasps' closest defeat this season as they narrowly lost out 46-44 to Reading in the Premier Trophy on April 9, and the return of Henriksson will boost the side.
Boston's Carl Wilkinson comes in at seven in the Wasps line-up and he has been an asset to the Newport side this season with strong rides helping to support the team. Promoter Tim Stone has not hidden the fact that he wants to sign Wilkinson for next season and another strong ride will strengthen his chances of being a Newport rider next season.
This is the final week of the Speedway season and Wasps face a fight to avoid the Premier League wooden spoon for the 2001 season. Trelawny Tigers are just two points ahead of them and with the St-Austell based outfit due at Hayley Stadium this Sunday, it will be a battle royale between the bottom two sides.
Trelawny lost 58-34 at home to the Isle of Wight Islanders yesterday and although the Tigers face Swindon tomorrow night, unless there is an upset, it will all come down to Sunday's final race of the season.
For tonight's meet, Newport face their frequent guest rider Phil Morris, as well as former Wasp Tommy Palmer who rode for them this season.
Newport Wasps: 1-A Henriksson, 2-S Smith, 3-G Cunningham, 4-C Neath, 5-S Masters (s), 6-R Finlow, 7-C Wilkinson.
Reading Racers: 1-C Gjedde, 2-D Mullett, 3-P Morris, 4-T Palmer, 5- A Castagna, 6-B Mackay, 7-C Schramm.
