THE Legendary TJ's opens its doors for a concert in aid of cancer research next week. The runners of Transpose Music Rooms, Albany Trading Estate, Newport, are taking over the Newport venue on Wednesday to raise money with a bill of local bands topped with Janiero. The bill features:
Janiero (pictured) - beautiful, gothic-tinged indie rock. Good instrumentation with a manic frontman. Wildge - alternative rock Idiom - alternative rock Jag - alternative rock Cut 3 Times (debut appearance) - metal with a nod to Metallica. Smokestack (debut appearance) - Nashville country vibes. Sexy Vegas Superstars (debut appearance) - fun pop with sumptuous harmonies.
Transpose partner Mike Dasent said the charity gig will be the first that the rehearsal rooms put on. Each band rehearses at Transpose: "They are either gigging bands or the ones that are ready to start gigging," he explained of the preparations for the concert, which began two months ago.
"We were talking about doing something like they used to with Club Cherub at TJ's every week with bands.
"As we don't own a larger PA and it would end up costing us money, we thought if we could do a charity gig with free PA, bands and venue, someone is going to benefit in the end."
TJ's is allowing Transpose free access, the PA will be provided by Dean Poole, who puts bands on in Riverside Tavern, Clarence Place, Newport, every Tuesday night and drums in Janiero and Fathead. All of the bands are playing for free.
Tickets are £2.50 on the door. The concert is from 9pm 'til late. Each band, apart from the headliners, will play 20 minutes .
