CWMBRAN Town eased to a comfortable 2-0 League of Wales Cup tie win over landlords Port Talbot at the Victoria Road ground last night.

Cwmbran's supremacy was rarely challenged as they kept a clean sheet for the second successive match and unbeaten in the last four games.

Their only edgy period came at the start of the second-half when they made three substitutions during the interval.

Tony Willcox, Cwmbran manager, said: "It has been a stop, start season for different reasons and it was important that we kept the momentum going.

"Although it was comfortable our performance should not be underestimated because they came off the back of a six-goal league performance against Flexsys Cefn Druids on Saturday."

It was just the right workout for Cwmbran in preparation for the visit of Caernarfon on Saturday. Willcox added: "They have had a really good start and it is going to be a touch one. They are a team with points in the bag and we have to peg them back."

Cwmbran took a 24th-minute lead against Port Talbot, youth team product Chris Watkins heading in from Nathan Cotterrall's quickly taken free kick. Four minutes later a shot from Nathan Wigg thudded against the Port Talbot crossbar.

Adam Bishop, Port Talbot substitute, wasted a chance to equalise after seventy minutes, leading over the bar when unmarked. Cwmbran went straight to the other end as substitute Rhys Griffiths scored a 71st minute second goal.
