EBBW Vale loose head prop Iestyn Thomas is set to win his sixth cap for Wales in Wednesday's international against Romania at the Millennium Stadium (writes Robin Davey).
With British Lion Darren Morris injured, Thomas should get the call when the team is named later today.
He played in both Tests against Japan in the summer having been capped against Samoa, USA and South Africa last November, the latter two as a replacement.
But Brett Sinkinson's return for Wales after the 'grannygate' scandal will have to be put on hold. The flanker suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury against Newport on Saturday and has pulled out.
That should mean a call-up for Bath flanker Gavin Thomas for his first cap at home having played twice against Japan in the summer.
Llanelli outside half Stephen Jones looks like clinching the inside centre position with Swansea teenager Gavin Henson winning the outside half spot.
Henson can secure the place for the November internationals' against Argentina, Tonga and Australia because Neil Jenkins says his knee injury will keep him out until Christmas.
Wales (probable): K Morgan (Swansea), G Thomas (Bridgend), A Bateman (Neath), S Jones (Llanelli), D James (Bridgend), G Henson (Swansea), R Howley (Cardiff), I Thomas (Ebbw Vale), R McBryde (Llanelli), D Young (Cardiff) captain, C Wyatt (Llanelli), A Moore, C Charvis, G Lewis (Swansea), G Thomas (Bath).
