A GWENT Assembly Member is calling for an investigation into reports that terrorists linked to World Trade terror prime suspect Osama bin Laden trained in Wales.
First Minister Rhodri Morgan is to be asked by Jocelyn Davies, pictured, to investigate reports that a group linked to Osama bin Laden could have trained in the Brecon Beacons.
Jaish-i-Mohammed, a terrorist organisation set up to promote the destruction of America, is banned in Britain.
But now there are claims that the organisation has cells in South Wales and that British Islamic activists recruited by Jaish-i-Moham-med underwent military training in the Beacons last year.
South Wales East AM Ms Davies, who lives in Newbridge, today spoke of her concern about the claims.
She said: "The Brecon Beacons is a military-sensitive area and if it is going to be ear-marked by terrorist cells as a place they can go and train that is something we have to look at very closely."
Ms Davies said she would be writing to Mr Morgan asking him to to launch an inquiry into the claims.
"The Brecon Beacons are good enough for the Army, so they must have found the terrain very helpful in the training of troops because they can face all sorts of conditions there,"" said Ms Davies.
Jaish-i-Mohammed is active in Kashmir, with cells around the world. It claimed responsibility for last October's bomb attack on the warship USS Cole in Yemen, which killed 17 sailors.
