The celebrated Japanese pianist, Reiko Fujisawa, (pictured) is playing in Monmouth and Cardiff as part of the Japan 2001 festival.
The first event, in Monmouth School hall on September 18, involves Fujisawa in the Ensemble Tozai Duo.
Joji Hirota plays traditional Taiko drums but in a quieter style than one may have expected from this kind of drummer. Hirota is known for a more mellow approach.
Fujisawa will play music familiar to European ears as well as compositions from her native Japan.
The second appearance is at St David's Hall in Cardiff on September 25.
Here, Fujisawa launches the hall's new season of lunchtime concerts. Her performance will include works by Schubert and Beethoven as well as excerpts from Toshi Ichiyanagi's Cloud Atlas.
The Monmouth concert begins at 7.30pm on September 18. Tickets £9 (£3 for students). Box office: 01600 772747.
St David's Hall, 1.05pm. £4. Box office: 029 20 878444.
