GWENT'S Acorn Recruit-ment, one of Wales' fastest-growing businesses, is to build a multi-million-pound headquarters in Newport.
The Newport-based company, which has offices across Wales and the North-West of England, has acquired a site at Cleppa Park, a stone's throw from the giant LG Electronics site.
The building will also house the company's rapidly expanding training division, and features will include a state-of-the-art call-centre training complex.
Managing director Matt Southall said: "This site is perfect for our needs and will allow us all the space we require to meet our future demands.
"With a turnover of more than £25m a year and a permanent staff count of 120, Acorn has outgrown its existing headquarters in Bridge Street, Newport.
"The demands of our business mean we are investing heavily in IT systems and strengthening our in-house support services. To have purpose-built accommodation will undoubtedly help these processes."
He praised the support given to the scheme by the Welsh Development Agency and the National Assembly.
"We have been very impressed with the level of support we have been given. Newport borough council have been equally enthusiastic about our proposals."
Acorn has acquired a one-and-a-half-acre site at Cleppa Park from Gloucestershire-based developer Robert Hitchin.
Fletcher Morgan acted for Acorn, while Robert Hitchin was represented by King Sturge. David Mullins, of Fletcher Morgan, said: "Acorn is a high-quality business and we have been delighted to help them secure this site.
"The building will extend to some 17,000 sq ft over two floors and features a double- height entrance space with balconied reception area - the central feature to the L-shaped plan."
Architect Chris Waterworth said: "The building is open-plan with raised access floors for flexible IT wiring, which reflects the clients' forward-looking business ethos.
"It is hoped that building work will start early next year."
The expansion was welcomed by WDA chief executive Graham Hawker, who said: "Acorn is just the kind of dynamic business that Wales needs more of.
"The recruitment and training of skilled staff are crucial elements in efforts to improve the economy.
"Acorn is a home-grown success story that is not only enjoying its own success but also helping dozens of other companies and organisations find the best kind of staff."
