GLAMORGAN expect to be cracking open the champagne at Hove tonight where anything but defeat against Sussex will clinch them the Norwich Union League Division Two title.
In the county championship, rain has played a large part in leaving the Welshmen struggling to avoid relegation to the Second Division.
But if rain ruins the Hove day/night encounter it will not matter as two points will be enough to leave Glamorgan unassailable at the top.
We celebrated with beer when we clinched promotion, said Glamorgan batsman Matthew Maynard, (pictured). 'But we are all looking forward to some champagne.'
Acting skipper Adrian Dale commented, 'We've been eyeing the title for some time and the way we have been playing we feel we deserve it.
'But if we dont manage it tonight for some reason, weve still got Middlesex at home on Sunday, September 16.'
Coach Jeff Hammond added: I think we have a very, very good combination and I think we deserve our position and the sooner we wrap it up the better.
'In the four-day championship games, rain has been the thing that has got in our road. This time if rain does get in the road its going to be to our advantage.'
Sussex will not make it easy for Glamorgan as victory in their final two games will leave them with an outside chance of promotion who are currently fifth.
But if Maynard and Co. can continue their recent form, Maynard followed his century against Hampshire with 71 in Sunday's rain-hit game with Worcestershire, then Glamorgan should be celebrating.
Then will come the more important task of winning at Leicestershire in the championship match beginning on Friday to try to secure their position in the top flight.
There is an outside chance skipper Steve James could return from his broken hand injury tonight. Glamorgan squad (probable) Newell, I Thomas, Croft, Maher, Maynard, Powell, Dale, D Thomas, Cosker, Davies, Parkin, Watkin.
