A multi-million pound golf course, luxury hotel and tennis centre scheme could be on the cards for the western outskirts of Newport.

The scheme would transform 300-acres of agricultural land at Graig-y-Saeson farm to the north west of junction 28 of the M4.

The proposal includes an 18-hole golf course complete with luxury two-storey golf clubhouse and an 80-bed hotel with parking for 200 cars.

The luxury hotel, with sweeping views of the golf course and open countryside, which would be four times the size of the clubhouse, and have space for conferences, restaurants and bars and also a swimming pool. The proposed tennis centre would have six indoor courts and six outdoors.

Plans show that the two storey tennis building, served by a 48-space parking bay, would be topped by a distinctive rotunda style interlocking roof .

The proposed developer of the site is Leathdunn, a company owned by Newport-based property firm Johnsey Estates. Leathdunn is currently applying for planning permission to Newport county borough council for matters in relation to the three key elements of the huge scheme and also new access, including a bridge over the M4 motorway to the site.

The proposed access to the site is via Cleppa Park Business estate as no access from the M4 is permitted.
