NEWPORT draft teenage threequarter Nathan Brew, pictured, into their squad for tomorrow's Celtic, Welsh/Scottish League game against Edinburgh at Rodney Parade.

But a big blow is the loss of number eight Joe Powell for at least a month with suspected knee cartilage trouble after being injured when he went on against Cardiff on Wednesday night.

Alix Popham is also doubtful with an an arm injury, so Andrew Powell could step in.

With Gareth Gravell due to make his home league debut in the back row as well, it means three members of last season's under-21 team are in the senior squad.

And hooker Chris Thomas, a Wales under-21 cap last season, could feature among the replacements.

Brew, who has played for Wales Youth and is from Neath, has impressed Newport's new coach Ian McIntosh in the short time he has been here.

He was a wing last season, but McIntosh wants to convert him to a centre and believes he has real potential.

Cardiff teenager Nick Robinson stole the show at outside half on Wednesday and McIntosh will not hesitate to give youth a fling at Newport either.

Andy Marinos is another casualty with a recurrence of his ankle trouble and with Jason Jones-Hughes also sidelined with a knee injury, the centres will be chosen from Matthew Watkins, Jonathan Pritchard and Brew.

Loose head prop Ceri Jones will make his first appearance of the season, and James Richards and Chris Anthony also start in an all-change front row.

The team to face the Scots will not be finalised until after training today.

It is vital Newport return to winning form after their Cardiff setback, especially as they have testing away games against Munster, Neath, Bridgend and Newcastle in September.
