A LAST gasp goal from full-back Ian Burman earned Llanwern a share of the points in their eight-goal thriller at home to UWIC.
Llanwern, at Ely Rangers tomorrow night, trailed 3-1 at half-time in their Welsh League, Division One, game but hit back to draw 4-4.
Llanwern, hard hit for players, fell behind from a Wayne Evans penalty, but replied immediately when Lee Stewart scored a neat goal after linking with Richard Shier.
The goals continued to flow and Llanwern fell behind once more to a John Scott goal and fell deeper into trouble when Evans failed to hold a cross and was punished by a Daniel Joseph goal.
Stewart sparked Llanwern's revival and substitute Lee Ashman, on for Richard Gandy, levelled the scores with Matthew Smith setting it up.
Five minutes from the end Stewart was denied a goal and immediately the students switched play and Luke Hardy put them ahead once more.
Battling Llanwern kept their heads and grabbed a point when Ashman's cross wasn't cleared, allowing Burman to pounce for the equaliser.
Elsewhere in the league, a hat-trick from Ian Davies helped give AFC Rhondda a 4-3 home win over Fields Park in one of the closest matches of the afternoon.
Caerleon were subjected to a 3-0 drubbing away to Ton Pentre as promising youngster Raith Plant, on loan from Newport County, hit an impressive hat-trick.
In Division Two, third-placed Bettws were beaten 2-0 by mid-table Morriston Town, while Chepstow were soundly beaten 3-0 at Treharris.
In Division three, there was embarrassment for Caldicot as they saw a 2-1 lead slip to a 5-2 defeat at Newcastle Emlyn after they had two men injured and had to play on with ten men.
Having taken only one substitute to the game, Caldicot were 2-1 up five minutes into the second half with goals from Chris Lilygreen and Tyrone Tucker.
After missing a penalty, they suffered a double injury and having brought on their one sub, ten man Caldicot could not stop Newcastle who ran out comfortable winners.
Risca United beat Cwmtillery 2-1 with first half goals from Rhys Griffiths and Marc Coombs, while Lee Jones netted with a second half header for Tillery.
Risca's Youth team beat Haverfordwest 4-3 in an exciting match in their first match in the national league.
