LLANWERN were brought down to earth by neighbours Caerleon in the Welsh League, First Division derby last night.

Looking for a second successive league win, Llanwern suffered a 3-2 home defeat. Caerleon took the lead through Ryan Andrews before Paul Brown's deflected shot gave the visitors a two-goal lead.

Llanwern, out of luck at times, pulled a goal back through Richard Shier just before half-time.

Caerleon defender Mark Wadden restored his side's two-goal lead with a powerful and impressive header.

Llanwern, who surprisingly had seven players cautioned - Caerleon didn't get a yellow card - added a second through substitute Paul Archer but couldn't salvage a point in a competitive and entertaining game.

Caerleon were inspired by player-coach Andrew Beattie, who pulled most of the strings in a defensive role, but really it just wasn't Llanwern's night.

Simon Griffiths, Lee Booker and Chris Woodcock scored for Tredegar Town in a 3-1 Second Division win at Merthyr Saints, whose goal came from Andrew Williams.

Caldicot Town bid to maintain their impressive Third Division start to the season when they travel to Risca United tonight. Caldicot swamped Albion Rovers 5-0 on Saturday. Newport YMCA entertain town rivals Albion while newcomers RTB Ebbw Vale are at home to Tillery.

In the First Division, Fields Park-Pontllanfraith travel to Penrhiwceiber, both teams seeking a first league win.
