ALL three Welsh clubs went out of the Worthington Cup last night, Swansea and Wrexham beaten at home and Cardiff falling to Millwall in the Lions' Den.

Cardiff slipped to a 2-1 defeat against opponents who managed only three worthwhile goal efforts all night.

But one of them was from the penalty spot on the hour and veteran striker Steve Claridge's successful strike sealed victory.

Richard Sadler had given Millwall a 23rd minute lead before Robert Earnshaw equalised in first half injury time with his first goal of the season.

Cardiff dominated the first half and Millwall fans booed their team off the pitch at half time. But Alan Cork's City were outplayed after the interval and can have few complaints about their defeat.

Swansea, still without a home win or a home goal this season, went down 2-0 to Peterborough United at the Vetch.

Peterborough were below strength because of injuries, but were still good enough with goals from substitute Neale Fenn in first half stoppage time and Andy Clarke eight minutes from the end.

Wrexham, who have failed to get beyond the first round in seven years, conceded goals to Jamaican international Theo Whitlore, Mark Greaves and Gary Alexander.

Although Craig Falconbridge and Kevin Russell, in injury time, both scored goals for Wrexham it was to no avail.
