EBBW Vale have signed Bridgend and former Newport full back Gareth Cull.
He is a specialist goal kicker and could fill the void left in that department by Jason Strange, though Scott Mitchell is also a useful kicker.
"He's a quality goal kicker and he's a very experienced player, he's a good signing for us," said Ebbw Vale coach Mike Ruddock.
Vale think highly of new recruit Matt James, signed from Newbridge, but Ruddock points out there is plenty of rugby on the horizon.
"Matt is doing very well, but we've got three games coming up in a week with Pontypridd on Friday, Leinster next Tuesday and then Swansea on the Saturday," said Ruddock. "It's important we've got plenty of options. Last season we struggled because we didn't have people to bring in."
Back row forward Gareth Green is battling to make the home game against Pontypridd. He missed Saturday's league opener at Llanelli with an ankle injury and is doubtful for Friday.
Cross Keys beat English First Division side Henley in a friendly 32-7. Cross Keys' tries were by D Gibbs (2), M McCarthy, M Lovell and G Worgan who also kicked two conversions and a penalty.
