NEWPORT sprinter Christian Malcolm continues his learning curve at the highest-level tonight in the world's biggest non-championship event, the Zurich Golden League meeting.

Less than a week after the finish of the World Championships, the former World 200 metres junior champion is one of a handful of Britons considered classy enough by the Swiss organisers to take part in the world's richest meeting.

The £1.8million budget always ensures the best stars appear in the "Weltklasse". This year is no different - there are around 30 gold medallists from Edmonton entered in an event dubbed "The Three Hours Olympics".

Malcolm will start in either or both of the 100 and 200 metres - but the 22-year-old is still tired after his efforts in Canada.

He reached both sprint finals and then ran the third leg in the botched 4x100m relay where he failed to hand over the baton to anchor man Jonathan Barbour.

He admitted: "Those nine races took an awful lot out of me and I'm still feeling worn out. But running is my job and I've got to get on with my life. Actually I'm chuffed to be running in Zurich."

Seventh in the 100 metres final and fifth over 200 metres, Malcolm said: "Now I've got to finish my season on a high and build on the experience I gained in Edmonton.

"The competition in the Golden League meetings is on a par and in Zurich I'm sure there will be heats, almost certainly in the 100 metres."

Malcolm lowered his fastest 100m and 200m times to 10.11sec and 20.08sec in Canada and said: "My aim is to improve those times."
