THE story of a Gwent boy jailed in 1901 for playing football in the street is being played out on stage.
Timepiece, written by Liz Davies, centres on the history of Abergav-enny and includes the story of an 11-year-old, played by Olaf Jones (pictured), sent to Usk prison for seven days hard labour after his father refused to pay the fine. The youngster was released after four days on the intervention of the government.
The play, which can be seen at the Borough Theatre from August 22 - 25, features 25 local actors and actresses of all ages, and original music written by Jason Ball, of the Music Studio.
Research for Timepiece was carried out by the Local Family History Society and Abergavenny town council, which has supported the project and loaned property for display in the council chamber.
The exhibition can be seen from 6.30pm each evening before the performance and includes many items normally not seen by the public. Tickets are available from the Borough Theatre box office on 01873 850805.
