WORLD champion super-middleweight Joe Calzaghe has told his fans he wants to fight every three months - and will start with a defence of his title against American Antwun Echols on October 13.
The Newbridge boxer was due to fight a week earlier but Sports Network pushed the date back because of TV scheduling in America.
It is seven months since Calzaghe's last fight against German Mario Veit, but he said: "I'm on a mission now and want to keep active. As long as I can stay injury free I'll fight every three months.
"I've only boxed once this year and I'm eager to get back in the ring." And Calzaghe said he couldn't wish for a better opponent on his return than the highly thought-of Echols.
"Echols is definately a good fight for me and for the fans. He is one of those guys who likes a good scrap and one of those guys who comes to win," he said.
"To be honest the new date works in my favour because it gives me an extra week to train. I've just come back from holiday and I've been training for a week so I will be in tremendous shape at the end of the eight weeks.
"You need to be prepared because when you don't give 100% that's when you get beat. "But one of my strengths is I always give every opponent my all."
