CWMBRAN Town will take on Slovan Bratislava tonight with skipper Nathan Wigg insisting his side is quietly confident of getting a result in the first leg of their European tie against Slovan Bratislava at Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff.

"As a team we were talking last night and the atmosphere in the room was upbeat, everyone was buzzing and is up for it," said Wigg.

"Outwardly we've tried to play things down as we are rank outsiders, but deep down their is a feeling among the side that we can do well for ourselves."

With Slovan Bratislava being a relative mystery to Cwmbran Wigg believes playing against the unknowns could be to their advantage.

"There's an air of confidence around the side at the moment," said Wigg. "We believe in ourselves and everyone says that the cup is the great leveller so you never know.

"We're not going to sit back and let them dominate play. If we can get in amongst them and upset them physically then we can certainly get a good result.

"But it's going to be very very close, obviously they're better than we are technically, but our side has a good fighting spirit and I think that'll help."

With Barry Town already winning in Europe this season Cwmbran have to live up to the benchmark set by last year's League of Wales champions.

But according to Wigg the players are determined to put Cwmbran on the map. "We want to put Cwmbran on the European map," revealed the Town skipper.

"Barry got theirs and so now we want a win and to go through to the next stage. The boys are determined to make a point of the strength of the League of Wales.

"For some it will be their first and maybe their last time in Europe, so everyone wants to make a big impression and get the win."

But Town will have to face Bratislava without the help of new signing Craig Hughes, who has failed to recover from a thigh injury.
