MORE than 800 jobs promised by BT at Nantgarw may not now materialise. The company, which has had serious financial problems recently, has put a call centre on the market.
BT built the call centre but is now in talks to sell off the offices, although it is not clear whether discussions are taking place with another firm that will set up in business or with a property company.
There are concerns that the huge facility could lie empty for years like the LG semiconductor plant at Newport, which has been mothballed since it was built in the mid-1990s.
The news comes just days after Nantgarw-based GE Engine Services, which also has facilities at Blackwood and Bedwas, announced it was shedding 250 highly skilled jobs.
