THE MANIC Street Preachers release their first single with lyrics written by James Dean Bradfield today.

The single "Ocean Spray" was inspired by the death of James' mother, who died of cancer in Autumn 1999.

James (pictured centre) said: "It was the first time I felt that I could actually write a lyric and it wouldn't be crass. It's about watching somebody die.

"When people are in hospital they are told to drink a lot of cranberry juice because of infections, and my mum would say 'Go and get us some Ocean Spray cranberry juice'."

The artwork to the single once again features paintings by Neath artist Neale Howells.
