A GWENT pensioner died after being sent home with pain-killers following a five-hour wait at a hospital, her family claim.
Mrs Edith Palmer, 78, Beacon View, Nantyglo, was involved in a freak accident at Cardiff Airport after returning from holiday in Spain and was taken to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.
Her family are angry at the treatment she received and say they will take action against the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust.
The trust offered condolences to the family of the woman but said they could not comment further because the matter was now with the coroner.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out at Nevill Hall Hospital today. Mrs Palmer's son John said today: "My mother arrived from Alicante at 8.10pm on Tuesday at Cardiff Airport. She was hit in the stomach by a baggage trolley in the arrivals department.
"We arrived at the Heath Hospital at 9.55pm. We begged the doctors to see her because she was in so much pain. She was seen about 3am and they gave her two types of painkiller.
"When we arrived there was a sign saying there was a three and a half hour wait. At 3am the sign said there was a five hour wait. She was wheeled from the hospital to my car. She died in our house.
"We just did not get the service that we asked or hoped for."
