A CHEPSTOW man, Robert Hann, aged 29, was found dead in his cell in Gloucester prison on Sunday.
He had been arrested last Friday for breach of bail.
At the opening of the inquest a pathologist, Professor Neil Shepherd, told the Gloucester coroner that death was due to hanging.
The hearing was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
