MIDWEEK matchdays for Newport County are to switch from Wednesdays to Mondays next season, while Wallace Brown has been confirmed as the Exiles' chairman.
Brown, who has supported Newport in their various guises for 40 years, was acting joint chairman alongside Martin Greenham following the resignation of former chairman John Williams at the end of December and Greenham will revert to his place on the board of directors.
The switching of dates is designed so as not to clash with televised Champions' League matches and other important games.
The date switch will also prevent any embarrassing fixture clashes with fellow Spytty Park residents Albion Rovers, which forced the Dr Martens Cup semi-final to be switched to Worcester City at the end of last season. Work is also due to begin on Spytty Park later this summer with the building of a clubhouse, as well as the construction of a covered terrace, plus toilets and extra turnstiles.
lNewport County's youth team are in action twice this week, they face Bath City at Newport YMCA tomorrow (Thursday) (6.30pm) in the South West Counties League Cup and Forest Green Rovers in the league on Saturday (10.45am).
The match will be played at New College, Swindon, and not Forest Green's 'The Lawn' ground.
