ARMED police surrounded a Gwent house after being called to an alleged incident involving an air rifle.

Ten officers, four of them armed, were rushed to the normally quiet Monmouthshire village of Caerwent at 1.20am on Tuesday.

After a 30-minute stand-off and extensive negotiation with Sergeant Chris Wright of Caldicot police, a man surrendered himself to police.

A 40-year-old local man was arrested after an alleged incident and bailed pending further inquiries.
