A GARAGE owner says the future of his business will be under threat when the redevelopment of Blackwood bus station begins in January.

Andrew Short does not know if cars will be able to access his garage, AJM Autoservices, when work is carried out.

He says his queries to Caerphilly council on the matter remain unanswered.

Mr Short is worried his business, situated on the bus station access road behind Blackwood High Street, will suffer.

He said: "The least I would have expected is a letter detailing if the road is going to be closed and when."

The town's redevelopment is due to take 35 weeks. Because he runs a garage Mr Short needs access throughout the day, as vehicles will be coming and going.

Mr Short said: "I have looked at the plans but they give no details of when the road will be closed or for how long. They must know we are here, we have been on this site for 16 years and I pay rates to them."

The only other access to the garage is a one-way street.

The access road is also used by businesses on Blackwood High Street for deliveries.

Sue Jenkins, the leaseholder of Emily's Indoor Market, said: "We had a letter from the council asking us when we had deliveries. But we are not able to give them a set time, we need almost constant access."
