WELSH Hollywood star Rhys Ifans is the new patron of a Newport academy of performing arts.
The Burleigh Academy of Performing Arts at Llanthewy Road Baptist Church has grown in popularity in the two years since it opened.
Now the academy will also introduce the Rhys Ifans Award to be given to a child who attends every class and improves their performance.
Rhys fans, star of Notting Hill, Twin Town and the new Oasis video who was born in Ruthin, Denbighshire, said: "It is quite an honour to think that the young performers will work towards achieving this award.
"As a performer I like to encourage up-and-coming talent. I was thrilled to become a patron of the Burleigh."
Sarah Lucas, principal of the Burleigh, added: "We are thrilled to have Rhys.
"The children and the young adults who are aware of his films and other performances are excited to be associated with such a popular performer."
The academy has a ballet studio, theatre and dance studio.
