COUNTY caretaker boss Glyn Jones (pictured) had no complaints after Weymouth's dominant victory at Spytty Park because he knows that the best team won.
But Jones is not in any mood to be so forgiving about the manner of the defeat, after individual errors gifted the visitors a 2-0 lead.
He explained: "We knew they would be well organised and strong because they are a full-time and very good side, but we didn't help ourselves with some schoolboy defending.
"We let ourselves down with poor defending, and it is no good looking to things like the Belle header off the line when it was still 0-0 because we just need to improve our game, simple as that.
"Jason Bowen and I both told the lads at half-time that it was important not to lose their shape and discipline and get a real hiding, but we certainly can't be happy with how we played.
"I thought we started brightly but we have to go back to the defence, schoolboy errors will always cost you at this level."
Jones was certain that he had made the right choice in choosing to change from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1, but the new formation isn't set in stone.
"We had little time to prepare the team and we decided to go with a 4-5-1 because of the type of team Weymouth are and what we perceived to be their strengths and weaknesses," he said.
"We had to try and get a performance out of a side who still feel very down after the sacking of John, who was very popular with all the lads, and this is how we decided to approach the game.
"But we've not made any decisions as to how we will play at Chippenham in the cup next week, we will wait and see after training this week.
"We have to dust ourselves down and put plenty of planning into next week. Saturday has gone now, it's in the past and the next game is all-important."
l Jason Bowen could hand Jones a massive boost ahead of the cup game by recovering from the knee injury that has seen him miss the last six games.
He said: "I am having a scan in the week, and all being well I will hopefully get the all-clear to start playing again."
