A GWENT man today vows never to rest until his brother is cleared of murdering his girlfriend at an Indian holiday resort.

Steve Duggan, 44, says he is convinced of his brother Adrian's innocence - despite being jailed for life for the murder of his girlfriend Catherine Campbell in the holiday resort of Vagator, Goa.

The civil engineer from Abertillery describes how his brother's dream holiday with his partner of five months turned into a "living nightmare" for him and his family.

Mr Duggan says his brother has told him that the couple were the victim of a violent robbery at their guesthouse on Christmas Day, 2003. He says: "Adrian doesn't remember that much about it because he became unconscious.

"He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries - he had a stab wound an inch from his heart and a punctured lung. He was lucky to be alive.

"They were robbed of money and their digital camera."

He said Adrian, 37, from Blaina, woke up in hospital to discover his 43-year-old lover dead and that he was the police's prime suspect for her killing.

But Mr Duggan said: "The only thing that keeps Adrian going is his determination to prove his innocence so that the real killer can be found. "Everyone knows Adrian is not capable of such a crime and we shall not rest until we have justice for him and Cath."

Adrian Duggan has now launched an appeal.
