WALES manager John Toshack has been dealt another blow in his quest to find a regular number one goalkeeper for his new-look side.

Toshack lost first choice 'keeper Danny Coyne for the foreseeable future at the weekend when the Burnley stopper was stretchered off with a suspected torn cruciate knee ligament.

But things have got even worse for Toshack after it was confirmed that Hull City 'keeper Boaz Myhill had rejected the chance of a call-up because he wants to keep all his options open.

That is the claim made by the Welsh FA amid reports the in-form Hull City 'keeper would be named in Toshack's World Cup qualifying squad.

Sources have suggested Toshack has sent scouts to watch Myhill.

The 22-year-old is qualified to play for Wales, as well as England and America.

A spokesman for the Welsh FA said: "We have known about his qualifications for the last 18 months. We have made numerous calls but in all the overtures made to him, he has remained non-committal.

"Clearly, he wants to keep his options open and he will not be in our squad."

It is understood Myhill would prefer to play for England. Although born in America, he has represented England at youth and under-20 level.

Toshack was understood to have enquired whether Chelsea's reserve stopper Carlos Cudicini would be interested in representing Wales. The former Italian under-21 international has never played a full-international for Italy and qualifies for Wales by virtue of being a UK resident for five years.

Toshack, who names his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan on Thursday, is likely to include 38 year-old Wolves 'keeper Paul Jones and young Ipswich prospect Lewis Price.
