A CYCLIST is in a critical but stable condition today after a collision with a car left him with serious head and back injuries.
The man, who is believed to be local but has not yet been named, was in collision with the windscreen of a hatchback car as he was cycling near the docks in Newport.
The accident happened at about 5pm yesterday on Alexandra Road, near the Southern Distributor Road, on the westbound lane near the entrance to the docks.
The injured man was initially taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital but was later transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
He is currently in intensive care, and Gwent Police today described his condition as "critical but stable".
