A GIRL aged 13 was left with a broken shoulder after being in collision with a van outside her school.
Farjana Aktar was crossing Nash Road outside Newport's Llisw-erry High School at lunchtime on Friday when she was in collision with a van and thrown against the windscreen.
She was taken to the city's Royal Gwent Hospital and treated for a broken shoulder bone, a twisted ankle, and some breathing difficulties.
Farjana panicked when she woke up in hospital with no memory of the accident.
Her mother, Jahanara Ahmed, said: "She didn't know what she was doing at the hospital or how she had got there.
"She's still shaky and scared, she can't remember anything." Mrs Ahmed, 32, of Bedford Road, Newport, said she was terrified when she found out her daughter had been in an accident.
She said: "I was in shock. I worried about the worst and was sick twice. "We were both in tears."
Farjana was crossing the road with her friends at about 12.30pm and was trying not to step in the puddles when the accident happened.
A pupil who witnessed the accident ran to the head teacher to get help and an ambulance was called.
Mrs Ahmed stayed up all night with her daughter, who was having difficulties breathing, and her father, Faruque, 37, was also at her bedside.
Farjana is likely to be off school for six weeks to recover from the accident. Deputy head teacher Terrence Hill said: "We are very concerned about her."
A police spokeswoman said they attended the scene of the accident and they are taking no further action.
