A MAN is in a stable condition and three other men were injured in an accident involving a car and an articulated lorry in Gwent yesterday.
All four had to be cut from the wreckage following the crash. The lorry driver escaped unhurt from the accident, which happened near the traffic lights on the northbound carriageway of the A40 in Monmouth.
The collision happened at around 3.45pm and the road was closed until 7.30pm for police investigations.
Three ambulances attended and took the casualties to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

* A tractor driver was taken to hospital after a separate crash yesterday.
The accident between the tractor and a heavy goods vehicle happened on the A449 northbound carriageway about half a mile before the Usk turn-off at 9.30am.
The 51-year-old tractor driver was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, with what were described as "life-threatening injuries" and was said to be in a serious condition.
The lorry driver was arrested in connection with the accident.
The road was closed for a number of hours after the crash from the Coldra roundabout, Newport, and major tailbacks built up along the feeder roads.
