SHADOWS fan Jackie Rudd will go on a musical spending spree after scooping £100,000 of lottery cash.

Jackie, 62, hit the jackpot after buying a National Lottery scratchcard at a post office near her home.

But the 62-year-old, who once a month meets other Shadows fans in The Gladiator pub, Malpas, almost missed out on the win because poor weather meant she was reluctant to venture outside.

She said: "I had a letter to post, but the weather was absolutely terrible, and I really didn't fancy going out. I'm glad I did now. I don't usually buy scratchcards, but the woman in front of me had just won £10, so I decided to have a go.

"When I scratched off a matching pair of cars and saw I had won £100,000, I couldn't believe it. The girls behind the counter were wonderful and offered me a cup of tea and a sit-down - I was in shock."

Jackie, who is married to Richard, 65, a retired surveyor, and lives in Penarth, will spend some of the money on a guitar.

She said: "I'm a huge Shadows fan. I've already got a Fender, but I would love a new acoustic guitar. I might go on a bit of a musical spending spree."

Jackie and Richard, who have a son, Anthony, 26, and a daughter, Nicola, 34, celebrated the win with a meal and champagne.

Richard Powell, 24, a barman at The Gladiator, said: "I'm over the moon for her. I hope she spends some of the money in the pub by buying a round of drinks."

Fronted by Cliff Richard, The Shadows had a string of hits during the 1950s and 60s, including Apache.
