A DECISION was due to be made today on whether to change plans for a boundary wall along the route of the new Sirhowy Enterprise Way.
Residents of Halls Crossing in Woodfieldside, Blackwood, claimed last month that building a fence along the stretch of land between the bypass and their homes - instead of the planned wall - would compromise safety.
Now the Islwyn AM Irene James is supporting them in their concern. She said yesterday she believed that if the change of plan is agreed, it will be "an accident waiting to happen".
The Argus reported last month that the original plan for the boundary involved building a wall and that the decision was deferred so councillors could visit the site.
Brett Tomlin said he was concerned that if the fence blew over or was vandalised his two young children could get on to the road. Mrs James, who visited the residents yesterday, said afterwards that she would be contacting Caerphilly council.
"Looking at safety, I feel there should be a wall there," she said. "It doesn't make sense - it will be an accident waiting to happen." A spokesman for the council said the issue would be discussed at the planning meeting this evening.
