South Wales Argus readers are already well on their way to raising the £250,000 pledged for the Sparkle Appeal.

And the appeal is set to get a further boost with help from the newly-formed business board.

Four local businessmen, Tony Curtis, Jon Collingbourne, Peter Duke and Jim Daniels have joined forces to support what they see as an unmissable opportunity to support a charity which will have such a positive effect on more than 1,200 children and families living in South Gwent.

Jon Collingbourne, of Newport Car Auctions, said: "I believe very strongly that in helping the Sparkle Appeal, I am putting something back into the community where I live and run my business. "I know that all the money we raise will go into the most amazing children's centre, which will benefit so many children who live right on our doorstep. I am genuinely thrilled to be in a position to help."

The board was launched last month and is now keen to expand its membership. Chairman Tony Curtis said: "If anyone reading this has even a glimmer of an idea of how they can help, please come forward and support us. I can promise anyone who becomes involved that their efforts will be warmly received and much appreciated. I can also promise that they will not fail to find their involvement enormously rewarding.

The Board's first fundraising venture will be a gala ball on November 12, to be held at the Celtic Manor Resort. "We have gone all out to ensure that the evening is both enjoyable and memorable" If you are interested in joining the board, or booking a table for the ball, please contact Jane Wareham, the Sparkle Appeal Office on 01633 656212.
