A PENSIONER was left "shaking with fear" after an attack on her home. But great-grandmother Edith Walker, who is 82 next month, says she will not let those responsible make her a prisoner in her own home in the Fairview area of Blackwood.

She says she suffers frequent cold sweats after the panels of her front door were kicked in at the weekend.

Mrs Walker, a divorce who lives with one of her two sons, claims a number of people have been banging on the door and windows of her house recently.

But she said the problem got worse when her front door was damaged on Friday night.

"I heard them outside, shouting and banging on the door - then a panel from the door went flying across the room," she said.

She said she went outside to confront the person responsible - but no-one was there.

"I shouted, 'Only cowards run away - you haven't got the guts to face me,'" she said.

"Afterwards I was shaking, I was so scared." She said someone also banged on her door the next night and she saw someone making faces at her through her window.

Mrs Walker is still recovering from an accident at her home last year, when she fell downstairs and hurt her wrist and broke ribs.

But despite her fears she is adamant that she will carry on as normal - and go out shopping as she usually does.

She does not like leaving the house, however, as she is worried about what will happen in her absence.

"I am not going to hide away - you have to stand up for yourself," she said. "But I am worried about what they will do next." "I don't bother anyone. I just want to be left in peace."

Sergeant Lysha Thompson, of Blackwood police, confirmed a call had been received from Mrs Walker at 9.50pm on Friday, regarding criminal damage to her door.

She said that the officer dealing with the incident was continuing his investigations.
