On Christmas Day Samantha May's beloved nan died after a three-year battle with cancer.
Now she says she can feel her looking down and protecting baby Lily May Louise Robbins, who was born at 2.25pm on New Year's Day at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
"She would have loved Lily," she said.
Lily was due on December 22 and Ms May had hoped she would be born before her nan passed away.
"When I look at Lily's face I feel as though my nan is with me," she said.
Ms May, from Newport, says her seven-year-old son, Declan Carr, is excited about his new sister.
Her proud partner, 24-year-old trainee welder Kevin Robbins, said he can't wait to take 6lb 15.5oz Lily home.
"He is a very proud dad, he's thrilled," said Ms May.
Full-time mum Nicola Paul says she is very proud of her new son, Ieuan Jenkins.
The baby, who was born at 4.25pm, weighed in at 8lb 4oz, and Ms Paul, who lives in Partridge Road, Abertillery, says he was the heaviest of her three children at birth.
"My other two, who are 16 and six, came in to meet their brother last night. They were very excited and couldn't wait," she said.
Her happy partner, 22-year-old Carl Jenkins, says he is very proud of Ieaun, his first child, who was born at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
Kelly Brooks, 27, from School Street in Fleur-de-Lys, said the birth of little Jay Coopey at 2.45pm made her family complete.
"It is nice to have a little boy to join our four-year-old daughter, Abbi," she said. "Abbi thinks he's a little doll and is very excited."
The full-time mum says although Jay slept through the night at the Royal Gwent Hospital she kept waking up to check on him.
"I still can't quite believe he is here," she said.
Risca couple Rachel and Mathew Dix say they can't wait to take son Cody Joshua home.
Full-time mum Mrs Dix, 23, says she is delighted with her new son, who was born at 5.51pm, weighing 9lb 2oz at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
"We expected him to be early because we knew he was so big," she said. Cody was not due for another week.
"He was almost a little too big," said Mr Dix, 27, who lives with his wife in Thistle Way.
"Now we want to take him home to meet the rest of the family."
Proud first-time father Andrew Harron says the birth of his son, Lois Harron, was incredible.
"Everyone was shattered afterwards, though, especially Amanda," said the 34-year-old.
His partner, Amanda Hunt, 25, said she was very happy. "I can't believe he is here," she said.
"He is so beautiful."
The couple, from Westfield, in Caldicot, are both warehouse workers. Lois was born at 2.07pm at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
