To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Welsh Rugby Union, Penderyn has produced a limited edition, exclusive whisky which is set to become a collector's item for its unique design and style, as well as for the rich Madeira finished whisky - ideal to toast the Welsh side's recent success against Australia.

Barry-born Glenn Tutssell, from design company Enterprise IG, collaborated with Penderyn to create a superb-looking bottle of whisky in a distinctive, bespoke leather case with hand stitching, gold tooling and meticulously threaded laces reminiscent of the traditional rugby ball, reflecting the heritage of the game in Wales.

Only 1,250 bottles of the WRU 125th Anniversary Penderyn will be produced and each bottle will be numbered.

This is a rich Madeira finished single malt whisky, distilled to 50 per cent ABV to create a smooth and distinguished aperitif or digestif.

Special edition and rare whiskies are becoming more and more collectible with the number of specialist auctions growing in number, both traditional and online.

Prices vary depending on the whisky's rarity, but interest in collecting whisky is deeply rooted in North America, Europe and emerging in parts of Asia.

In fact, a growing number of bottles are now achieving more than five figures at auction. This means that, even though keeping the WRU 125th Anniversary bottle unopened might give you a phenomenal return on investment in a few years, you first of all need to resist the urge to drink this fine tasting single malt.

Stephen Davies, managing director of Penderyn, said: "We are proud to be able to celebrate the highlights of the WRU over the past 125 years, producing a special edition Penderyn that Welsh rugby fans can treasure and enjoy." It sells for £125 and can be bought direct from the Welsh Whisky Company's website www.welsh-whisky.co.uk where there is also a list of stockists.
