A NEWPORT man who was found critically injured on a Newport estate has died.
Anthony Beecham, 38, of Monnow Way, was discovered unconscious in a car park between the Nightingale pub and the Spar shop in Bettws, in the early hours of December 29.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Gwent Hospital but later transferred to the University Hospital of Wales where he died yesterday evening.
Gwent Police are treating the incident as suspicious and their investigation is continuing.
Last week five men, one aged 41 and the others in their late teens, were arrested on suspicion of serious assault. They were released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Bettws councillor Noel Trigg said: "I want to send my deepest sympathy to his parents.
"It is such a waste of a life. He had everything in front of him." Anyone with information about the incident can contact the police on 01633 838111 or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
