THE family of a 13-year-old girl who died last month at her school were told they face an agonising six-month wait before learning what happened to her.

Hayley Williams, from Treberth Crescent, off Chepstow Road, Newport, attended Ashgrove Special School in Penarth, near Cardiff.

She suffered from autism and was pulled unconscious from the school's hydrotherapy pool in December after suffering what her family say was a massive seizure.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing into the cause of Hayley's death.

Her mother, Gaynor Williams, said the family are still waiting for news about what happened to her daughter.

"We've been told it could take some time before we hear something. "It could be as long as six months, simply because it takes them that long to compile the information.

"It's upsetting, because we still don't really know what happened to Hayley. It would be nice to hear something now, because people are asking what she died of and we don't have any answers. It is quite hard." Little has become clear since last month.

She said: "We do know that she didn't drown. They told us there was no water in her lungs. I was very relieved to hear this, because at least we know she didn't suffer."

The family, father Alan, and 14-year-old sister Rachel, are still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.

Mrs Williams said: "It was such a shock, we're still trying to get over it."
