FOLLOWING the Christmas holidays the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar Club returns to the Cross Keys Hotel at Cross Keys tonight with the first headline appearance of local singer-songwriter Ian Day and his trio 'the Albino Frogs' for an evening of quirky and catchy songs and humorous stories.
It features Day's strong vocals and accomplished 'slap and tickle' style acoustic guitar, Ric Lawton's virtuoso sax and Remo Lusardi's latin flavoured percussion.
The Albino Frogs deal out plenty of hummable melodies, foot-tapping rhythms and memorable hooks. Imagine acoustic rock melodies with rapid fire Bossa Nova-style guitar and jazzy latino rhythms and you've hit the nail right on the head.
Ian and Co brought the house down as the final act of the Tsunami Benefit Concert at the Memo last January with their outstanding performance and word has obviously spread far and wide as they have recently been booked to play the prestigious South By South West Festival in Texas in March.
The evening starts at 7pm with an informal workshop for guitarists. The play-around by club members and visitors will follow at 8pm.
The concert with the Albino Frogs (Ian, Ric and Remo) will start at 8.45pm. Tickets cost £3 (£2 members/students) and may be reserved by ringing the organiser on 01495 270078.
