ANGRY people in a Blackwood street say lorry drivers ignoring new weight restrictions are making their lives a misery.
When the Sirhowy Enterprise Way opened last month, Bryn Road was downgraded from an A-road to a B-road.
New weight restrictions were brought in and use of the road is now only allowed for vehicles weighing under 7.5 tonnes.
But residents say the road is still used by large lorries whose drivers ignore the new restrictions.
Beverley Lampard has lived on the road for 27 years. She says despite new road signs warning of the new weight limit and directing traffic to the SEW she has not seen any change.
"When they told us about the new weight limits we thought 'brilliant', but it hasn't made a bit of difference," she says.
"People know the old route and follow it anyway." She said her house had been affected by the heavy traffic: "It shakes when these huge lorries go past. There is a crack in the wall and we are sure it has been caused by the constant noise."
Another resident, who has lived on the road for 19 years, said he was angry the signs were being ignored.
The man, who did not want to be named, said: "Sometimes the house shakes so much it sets the alarm off. It really makes our lives a misery." Pontllanfraith councillor Malcolm Parker said: "Hopefully, as people start following the signs, the road will get quieter. Drivers of these big vehicles need to realise it is illegal to break the weight limit."
A police spokeswoman said the situation on Bryn Road would be monitored.
