A RISCA woman who is alleged to have been involved in murdering an ex-mine worker was not called to give evidence at her trial.

Kathleen Carey, 56, will not be going into the witness box, her defence counsel, David Aubrey, QC, told Cardiff crown court.

Carey is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed 46-year-old Tony Jenkins as he struggled with 55-year-old Paul Lewis when a fight broke out in Mr Jenkins' home in Holly Road, Risca.

Lewis and Carey, both of Elm Drive, Risca, have pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

Prosecutor Ian Murphy, QC, alleged that the fight broke out on the night of May 14.

Lewis denied at any time wielding a knife during the fracas and he said the following morning Carey admitted stabbing Mr Jenkins.

Consultant psychiatrist Alan Lillywhite, called on behalf of Carey, said he examined her and concluded that at the time she was suffering from diminished responsibility.

This was by reason of brain damage, alcohol dependency and a personality disorder, he said. Proceeding
