YOUNGSTERS at a Newport school are learning how to keep healthy and improve their diet.
Llanmartin Primary School, Waltwood Road, Newport, is holding a week of activities designed to raise awareness among youngsters about healthy lifestyles and fitness.
The programme of events for the week includes a sandwich workshop, which will educate children about healthy sandwich options.
The pupils will also investigate in their science lessons how to keep their teeth in good condition.
Head teacher Barbara Morse said: "We are aiming to make our young people more health conscious.
"It's part of our philosophy that the pupils should look after themselves." There will be a fruit tuck shop, karate and tennis lessons and a health awareness assembly.
Teacher Anne Burgum, healthy schools co-ordinator, said the activities are already proving popular.
She said: "All the children are really into it. There is a buzz around the school."
The school is currently working towards its Healthy Schools Award, organised by the National Assembly.
