AN ELDERLY cyclist died yesterday after a collision with a car in Ebbw Vale.
The man, who was named locally as 71-year-old Ray Bromley, died yesterday morning after being critically injured in the collision at 4.25pm on Saturday.
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Church Street, Ebbw Vale.
Mr Bromley, of Drysiog Street, was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, with serious injuries. Doctors battled for 16 hours to save his life.
A police spokesman said the driver of the car - a white and grey Rover 216 - co-operated fully with police at the scene.
A neighbour in Drysiog Street, who asked not to be named, described Mr Bromley as a "quiet, lovely man".
She added: "He was very fit and active and always out on his bike. It's tragic."
Yesterday a small bunch of red carnations was taped to a railing close to the scene of the collision. They bore no message.
If you can help police call the serious collision investigation unit on 01633 643091 or 01633 838111, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
