NEWPORT County boss Peter Beadle was furious with his players after they performed woefully in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat against Eastleigh.
Angry supporters booed County off the field at the final whistle and showed their disgust with cries of 'what a load of rubbish.'
But boss Beadle refused to defend his players and admitted they deserved the criticism.
"It is my team and they were rubbish on Saturday, it is a worse feeling than when we lost to Carshalton," he said.
"I woke up on Saturday and for the first time I felt like I knew I would get a good performance from the players because in the previous two games they were excellent.
"I thought we had turned the corner, but I was very wrong.
"We are psychologically and mentally weak, I can't understand how we can perform so poorly, we used the same tactics and the same team with the same preparation for Saturday as for the previous two games.
"When the players cross the line it is out of my hands. We're fighting for our future and from back to front we were absolutely dire."
Beadle realises it could be his head on the chopping block if things don't improve and has moved to reassure supporters that he is trying to bring in new players, though he is having little luck.
"People write in letters and complain and tell me the buck stops with me and they are dead right.
"We've worked tirelessly for weeks to bring new players in and I could change the whole XI if I wanted to by next week, but they won't be any better than the players we have now.
"The best players are on contract and it's a frustrating time. I must have spoken to 30 managers last week alone, but it's very difficult.
"I am as angry and as frustrated as the fans are and they were justified in acting how they did on Saturday, but the damage at this club has happened over the last 18 months. When I came in we had lost ten games on the bounce.
"We now need to stick together, myself, the players, the staff and the fans."
