Newport County, smarting from the blast handed out by manager Peter Beadle following defeat by Eastleigh in front of their fans in the Nationwide Conference South on Saturday, have the perfect opportunity to put matters right tomorrow night.
County take on Wrexham in the FAW Premier Cup quarter-final with glory and cash at stake (kick-off 7pm). Prize money of £25,000 awaits the winners of the tie with the losers picking up £15,000 and the winners of the tournament collecting £100,000, making it by far the richest competition in Welsh soccer.
The winners of tomorrow's tie will be at home to TNS, leaders of the Welsh Premier League, and in the other semi-final Carmarthen are at home to Swansea.
Beadle, still maintaining his high profile search for players, said: "Every game is important to us and we should be trying to win every game - and tomorrow will be no different."
Beadle, planning to watch two matches today, added: "No manager is trying harder than me to bring in players and for the type of player we want to bring in it is hard work - and money from this competition could help us achieve that aim."
Central defender Paul Cochlin and the cup-tied Craig Hughes miss the tie while several players are hoping to work off bumps picked up in the Eastleigh defeat.
Newly-appointed assistant manager Scott Young will be in charge of tonight's training while Beadle takes in an evening game.
County's home record isn't good, having lost half their dozen league matches, but remain one place above the drop zone -Maidenhead and Carshalton both losing on Saturday while Eastbourne Borough, immediately above them, have an eight-point advantage, gaining a point at Basingstoke.
Wrexham, who do not travel well, are struggling for goals - missing striker Lee McEvilly, a summer signing from non-League Accrington Stanley, the Nationwide Conference leaders. He was in a rich vein of form when he suffered a foot stress fracture and could be out until the beginning of April.
Wrexham are averaging just a goal a game away from home and have lost seven times in Coca Cola League Division Two.
The Racecourse club are set to hand a debut to 18-year-old striker Lee Williams - converted from a defender - signed on a month's loan from Premiership club Aston Villa.
Wrexham, a club in administration, were all ready to play him against Leyton Orient on Saturday but the registration paperwork was not processed in time. He will also be idle this Saturday because scheduled opponents Cheltenham are involved in the FA Cup with a home tie against Newcastle.
Williams has scored eight goals for Villa Reserves since launching his striking career.
Wrexham lost 2-1 to Orient, missing a penalty when they trailed by two goals before Dean Bennett scored almost on time.
l Wrexham will also be without 58-year-old manager Denis Smith who is recovering from weekend hip surgery, the team under the guidance of assistant manager Kevin Russell and coach Brian Carey.
Russell said: "It is going to be a difficult game; a big game. There are big financial rewards so we will be looking to win."
