A FRIEND of Lemy Bullock told a court he saw an armed man wearing a Scream horror mask burst into a pub seconds before the Newport plasterer was fatally wounded.
Kelvin Enos, 41, told a jury he saw Aaron Kent kick down the door of Harvey's pub in Pill and draw a machete.
At Cardiff crown court yesterday Mr Enos said he went inside the bar seconds later and saw Mr Bullock on the floor, bleeding profusely. Mr Bullock died a few hours later in the city's Royal Gwent Hospital after being injured on the night of Tuesday, March 15.
Aaron Kent, 24, of Livale Court, Bettws, Newport, has pleaded guilty to murdering Mr Bullock, 36.
Two Pill men are on trial also accused of murdering Mr Bullock at the bar - Mohammed 'Mo' Nasser, 44, of Kirkby Lane, and Martyn Bruce, 38, of Courtybella Gardens.
Mo Nasser's brother, Abdul 'Sammy' Nasser, 39, of Bassaleg Road, Newport, is also charged with murder, accused of supplying the alleged murder weapon.
A fourth man, Mohammed 'Ziggy' Abbes, 50, of Cardiff Road, Newport, is facing a charge of assisting an offender.
Yesterday at Cardiff crown court Mr Bullock's friend Mr Enos said he had spent the day of his death with him, carrying out plastering work. That afternoon, after finishing work, Mr Enos said they went for a few drinks around Newport before later meeting again that evening in Harvey's bar.
He said while they were in Harvey's, Mo Nasser, Kent and Bruce were also drinking there.
When he came back from the pub's toilet, Mr Enos said he saw Kent whispering something to Mr Bullock, who told him, "leave me alone". At the end of the night, Mr Enos said, he was confronted by Mo Nasser wearing a Scream mask outside Harvey's.
He was on his way to get a Chinese takeaway meal and was waiting for Mr Bullock, who was getting "take-out" bottles of beer inside the pub. Mr Enos said Mo Nasser grabbed his arm and told him: "Please don't go back in the pub. Please don't get involved."
He said: "I saw Aaron Kent and Martyn Bruce approach the side doors of the pub, both wearing masks."
Mr Enos said Kent then shouted: "Let's go do my thing." He said: "Aaron Kent attempted to kick down the side doors when I saw him draw something from his coat. Martyn Bruce was stood behind him. "As he (Kent) finished kicking the door, I went in towards the pub and I just saw a shimmer of silver. I knew it was a knife. I was absolutely sure it was a machete... it just happened so quick."
He said he then saw Kent, Mo Nasser and Bruce run from the scene. Mr Enos said he went into the bar and saw Mr Bullock collapse.
The court heard how he and others in the pub tried to stem the blood from Mr Bullock's wounds as they waited for the ambulance to arrive. Witness Cherelle Morris, 17, said she saw Mo Nasser, Bruce and Kent put Scream horror masks on as they made their way to the front of Harvey's bar.
Ms Morris said she and some other friends had spent the evening at Anthony Southwood's flat opposite the pub.
She said at around 11.25pm she left the flat and saw Mo Nasser, Bruce and Kent come towards them: "As they came closer they concealed their identities with Scream masks," she said.
Ms Morris said Mo Nasser and Bruce put their hands up and made "ghost noises" as they passed.
The court was shown a Scream horror-film mask. When she was asked by prosecutor Gerard Elias, QC, if the three had worn similar masks, she replied: "Yes, that's the type of mask."
She was then asked if any of the men had worn anything to conceal their identities before putting their masks on.
Ms Morris said: "Aaron Kent had a bandana covering his face, like a balaclava covering his mouth and jaw." Proceeding.
