ABERTILLERY residents can help their community and the environment by recycling.
Abertillery Round Table is collecting unwanted mobile phones, phone batteries and used printer inkjet and toner cartridges to recycle to raise funds.
Lawrence Morris of Abertillery Round Table said: "Fundraisers traditionally call for donations of money. Instead, we want items which usually end up in the bin.
"With fancy new mobiles coming onto the market people are replacing their handsets more than ever.
"Lots of offices bin their inkjet and toner cartridges too but could help our valuable work and the environment at the same time."
Old mobiles and cartridges often end up in landfill sites where they can cause pollution as they break down and chemicals leak into the soil. Unwanted phones and cartridges can be left in Abertillery at Karpet Forum on Church Street or Colliers Garage, Hill Street.
Donors can also call 08712 505050 for a freepost envelope. The Table is looking for other businesses to collect the items. The group, which organises events like the annual fireworks display has raised several thousand pounds in the past few years.
This money has helped organisations such as Crossroads, Aberbeeg Hospital and Velindre hospital.
