COUNTY boss Peter Beadle is meeting with Andrew Thomas and Darren Jones today with a view to bringing both back to the club.
Beadle has made it clear that he would like to see both defenders rejoin the club and is relishing the chance to discuss what the players plan to do after their release from prison on Tuesday.
However, Beadle has missed out on a new striker. County had agreed terms with a much-travelled former League player but it was not possible to get clearance for him as the transfer window has closed.
Beadle and the player had agreed terms and he was keen to sign, but the move is now on-hold until the end of the season and the boss will look at other options.
"We had agreed a deal and the player was keen to sign, but the deal died when we found out that we would be unable to obtain international clearance on him at this time," he said.
"We thought it would be possible, but one or two problems have arisen and it just isn't feasible.
"It is unfortunate because obviously this has held us back in our search for other strikers, though I am hopeful the deal could still happen at the end of the season.
"It is now a case of trying other avenues, I am able to get to plenty of games to watch players now that Scott (Young) can take training and I will not give up the chase."
In regard to the potential double-deal for Thomas and former skipper Jones, Beadle explained: "I will be meeting with the players today to find out how they are feeling and what they plan to do.
"If the players are agreeable then I would like to get them fit and bring them back to the club, it all depends on what they want to do."
Ahead of tomorrow's home clash with promotion chasers Lewes (kick-off 3pm), the boss is keen to stress that his current squad are capable of transferring their impressive away form into winning results at home.
"I don't know why we are all of a sudden better on the road, I have discussed it with the players and think perhaps it is a bit of a mental thing," he said.
"When we go away we are prepared to be patient and show a lot of resilience and I want us to transfer that into our home form."
Beadle is aware that Cambridge City have announced they will not compete in the Conference South next season due to financial problems, but isn't thinking about the implications.
He said: "Some of the supporters and some of my players have asked about Cambridge and wondered if only one team are going down now, but as far as I am concerned, our aim is to finish outside of the bottom two and that is the end of it."
County should have Jason Bowen fit for tomorrow's clash and Ashley Williams should overcome a sore foot.
Beadle will assess Geraint Bater (cracked rib) and Gary Fisken (groin) tonight before naming his side.
Lee Jenkins is still being troubled by a knee injury and was set to see a specialist today.
